Each year, more than 1 million Americans are diagnosed with cancer. We know St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital’s cancer program is vital to the health and well-being of cancer patients in the mid-Hudson Valley. In fact, our oncology program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer – an honor bestowed on only one out of four hospitals that treat cancer.
According to the Commission on Cancer, accreditation is granted only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to a rigorous evaluation process, performance review, and on-site inspection, and which provide the very best in diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Receiving care at an accredited program ensures patients have access to comprehensive care offering a range of state-of-the-art services and equipment, a multi-specialty, team approach to coordinate treatment options, and comprehensive information, education and support. |
SLCH’s oncology program, led by the area's highly skilled oncologists (please see our online Medical Staff Directory), offers:
- Advanced diagnostics, including those offered by our affiliate, Hudson Valley Imaging
- Progressive treatment
- A multi-specialty, team approach to care involving certified oncology physicians and nurses, technicians, support personnel and a host of other health care professionals
Individualized treatment programs include:
- Chemotherapy
- Stereotactic biopsy
- Pain Management
- Rehabilitation
- Support and educational programs to deal with the disease during and after treatment

SLCH was the first hospital in the region to offer da Vinci robotic surgery for the minimally invasive treatment of urologic and gynecologic cancer. Read about this revolutionary treatment for prostatectomy and hysterectomy, or call 568-2565 for more information.
Construction of a comprehensive Cancer Treatment Center is under way at our Cornwall campus. Expected to open in 2009, it will consolidate and centralize our successful cancer program into one facility for the comfort and convenience of cancer patients. |

But diagnosis and treatment of cancer are only part of the services we offer at SLCH. We also provide programs to help patients live with their disease after treatment by teaching them to take care of themselves and addressing the emotional issues that often accompany the disease. We strive to educate patients and their families on the disease by providing information and support through free classes and support groups at the hospital (see our Community Calendar), and referral to services available in the community, such as those offered by the American Cancer Society.

| Staffed by an experienced and compassionate team of nurses, physicians, social workers and support staff, the SLCH Oncology Unit is dedicated to the care and comfort of patients and their families. Our care-giving team becomes like a second family to those for whom they care. |
